The mission
A party with
a purpose
“Where The Asians At‽ wants to transform Aotearoa into a regional/global net-exporter of music by growing world-class Pan-Asian-Kiwi musicians and weaving Pan-Asian music into the popular consciousness, creative and cultural identities of Aotearoa.”
— the Where The Asians At‽ mission, as published
Why
We want to see more world-class Pan-Asian-Kiwi musicians. There's more research to do to understand the complex reasons why there aren't more Asian musicians in Aotearoa — but some things are already clear.
Unifying the Pan-Asian-Kiwi community is an essential step — united, we have the strength to do something about it. And there can be no doubt that (undiscovered) Pan-Asian-Kiwi talent is plentiful.
Who are they‽
How can we find them‽
Can we get us all to coalesce‽

The whānau behind it
Where The Asians At‽ (Aotearoa) started as a Facebook group during the 2021 Covid lockdown — co-founded by Yee Yang ‘Square’ Lee, Sums Selvarajan, Eric Ngan and Danielle Hao-Aickin 郝丹丹 — gathering virtually for “Boba sessions” about representation, then taking the kōrero to the stage.
ASIAN(SOUND)SCAPES is produced by Where The Asians At‽ with SquareSums&Co, and supported across its editions by the partners and funders below.
