    Jazz bassist Umar Zakaria, multidisciplinary artist Yifan Uya and folk instrumentalist Andi Liu 刘安迪 join forces to present a unique combination of Asian folk music and improvisation. Drawing on Mongolian, Malay, Chinese and other influences, they traverse histories, spiritualities, and chaotic modernities through the medium of sound. Their performance will feature a variety of traditional instruments and musical styles from each artist’s personal background. The group hopes to promote awareness, accessibility, and diversity of Asian musical arts. n

    Dani & Tee began learning piano and violin at a young age. They felt like outsiders throughout their childhood; they were mixed, bilingual, constantly relocated, and never attended social gatherings outside of family or music-related events. Music was the one constant. It represents what Dani & Tee cannot describe: change, freedom, euphoria, grief, loss, and home. Their music reflects their exploration of the struggles of multicultural and immigrant identities, connecting people regardless of race, celebrating the beauty of different cultural identities. n

Manjit Singh upholds the essence of traditional Tabla playing. He has been teaching and performing Music since 1997. He has a Master's in Tabla from India and finished a Master’s research degree in Musicology from Auckland University. n

    Charles Wee is of Malaysian-Chinese and Melanau descent and moved to Aotearoa from Sibu as a teenager in the 70s. nfrom a young age he was exposed to martial arts and learned Hakka Praying Mantis style and Tae Kwon Do. Charles and some peers were among the first to establish a Taekwon-Do club in Auckland. In 1975, Charles began learning Tai Chi While achieving 7 dan black belt, he intentionally left Tae Kwon Do to primarily focus on Tai Chi – for both its spiritual and martial application. n
