The biggest stage achievements are getting into First place in the ‘Rap Of China’ competition New Zealand division and top 10 in the ‘Rap Of China’ competition Australasia division and second place in ‘The Voice, China’ New Zealand division. I am proud to be representing my culture and my community in the way of HipHop. n

We want to explore new expressions of traditional music in the modern world, based on the idea of borrowing fire from the Tiger to drive away bad things.

Jazz bassist Umar Zakaria, multidisciplinary artist Yifan Uya and folk instrumentalist Andi Liu 刘安迪 join forces to present a unique combination of Asian folk music and improvisation. Drawing on Mongolian, Malay, Chinese and other influences, they traverse histories, spiritualities, and chaotic modernities through the medium of sound. Their performance will feature a variety of traditional instruments and musical styles from each artist’s personal background. The group hopes to promote awareness, accessibility, and diversity of Asian musical arts. n

Performing waiata Māori not only let us embrace the culture through what we love to do, but also let us show respect towards it.

Daniel and Ashley are a husband and wife duo based in Aotearoa, New Zealand. When Ashley moved to New Zealand from Australia, the pair wondered in what ways could they learn and embrace Māori culture. For they both love music, ㅡmusic was the method they naturally chose. Since then, their musical journey has been focused on approaching Waiata Māori in their style. In the near future the couple aims to learn Te Reo Māori and write their own songs in different languages. n

Ersha Island is made up of two Chinese-Kiwi songwriters who are trying to make music that reflects their biracial upbringings. Siblings Dani and Tee create soul-pop compositions using their classical piano and violin backgrounds.

Dani & Tee began learning piano and violin at a young age. They felt like outsiders throughout their childhood; they were mixed, bilingual, constantly relocated, and never attended social gatherings outside of family or music-related events. Music was the one constant. It represents what Dani & Tee cannot describe: change, freedom, euphoria, grief, loss, and home. Their music reflects their exploration of the struggles of multicultural and immigrant identities, connecting people regardless of race, celebrating the beauty of different cultural identities. n

For anyone who's ever been curious about Hindustani music, tabla maestro Manjit Singh and vocalist Balamohan Shingade will be introducing and performing it at the festival!

Hindustani music (also known as North Indian classical music) is an improvised tradition from the Subcontinent. Balamohan Shingade is a vocalist, and a student of Rajendra Kandalgaonkar with whom he continues his education in the guru-shishya tradition. Manjit Singh upholds the essence of traditional Tabla playing. He has been teaching and performing Music since 1997. He has a Master's in Tabla from India and finished a Master’s research degree in Musicology from Auckland University. n

We're a songwriting musical duo exploring sounds that encompass multi-genres from pop, electronic, and R&B to South Asian sounds. Over the past few years, Iris has cultivated a dedicated fanbase online through her diverse repertoire of acoustic covers. These days, Iris writes about fairy tales, mental health, being Other, heartbreaks and small aches. n

Kathy is a singer-songwriter originally from Wellington. She has been a member of Filcoro, the Wellington Filipino community choir, for a number of years and has written and performed some choral arrangements with the group. Influenced by artists like AJ Rafael, Sara Bareilles, and the singers her mum listens to, her original music can be described as a cross between pop, jazz and musical theatre. n

Lili Waretini is a New Zealand-based R&B-Pop singer. Accompanied by guitarist Marcella Adisurya, the duo performs a mixture of R&B and Pop classics by artists ranging from SWV to BENEE. Adisurya's colourful jazz stylings compliment Waretini's crisp and warm tones. Waretini recently released her debut single "Spend Some Time" earlier this year which features collaboration efforts from Adisurya. n

As two solo artists who have normally worked alone, we've come together and discovered the power of collaboration 🙏🔥

Brought together by the joy of songwriting, singer-songwriter Mia (Ms. Mia) and music producer Clarissa (Something They Call Myth, TEAM152) started collaborating through the New Music Development Fund programme by NZ on Air to create new music. They started performing together as a duo this year, exploring the sonic foundations of their songs by playing in a live setting, with vocal harmonies layered upon the stripped-back accompaniment of Clarissa’s acoustic guitar and Mia’s piano. As a bonus, performing as a duo has also taken the fright out of the stage for Clarissa and Mia. n

New Zealand Blossom Art Troupe was founded by the troupe leader Li Yulin in 2008. The organisation has nearly 100 members undertaking various acting roles, such as traditional folk musicians, vocalists, dancers and opera performance artists.

The troupe is considered one of the best amongst all New Zealand Chinese art troupes in terms of skill sets and diverse performances. It collaborates with Auckland City Council and many other organisations through co-hosting events. The group is often invited to perform in Hamilton, Wellington, Rotorua, Whangarei and other places. And it always receives positive feedback from the local organisations and audiences of different ethnic backgrounds. n

Since I was little I always remember listening to performances by legendary Korean vocalists such as 윤도현 (Yoon Do Hyun) and 소향 (Sohang) and their ways of expressing themselves has always put me in awe.

Even in some of my darkest times, one that I could always turn to that made me feel better about myself was music. Now I'm looking to make others feel the way I felt looking up to these artists, whether it be through a sombre ballad that makes you think or a energetic song that makes you jump. n

Rhythm School- In the realm of South Asian music, when it comes to percussionists, vocalists and instrumentalist emanating from the New Zealand the name Rhythm School of Indian Music is inseparable from Indian Classical Music in NZ. School was formed in 2009 with a vision to train the New Zealanders with high quality art. Rhythm school is run by Manjit singh and Daljeet Kaur. Manjit is a Ace tabla player and a well know for his compositional work in Indian and Jazz collaborative projects. Daljeet is a highly trained singer and sings Indian classical music and love to do cross cultural shows n

Charles teaches the art of tai chi in a way that emphasises the Internal, metaphysical, fundamental principles, cultural and spiritual values, in particular Taoism and dualism.

Charles Wee is of Malaysian-Chinese and Melanau descent and moved to Aotearoa from Sibu as a teenager in the 70s. nfrom a young age he was exposed to martial arts and learned Hakka Praying Mantis style and Tae Kwon Do. Charles and some peers were among the first to establish a Taekwon-Do club in Auckland. In 1975, Charles began learning Tai Chi While achieving 7 dan black belt, he intentionally left Tae Kwon Do to primarily focus on Tai Chi – for both its spiritual and martial application. n

My love for finger-style comes from a love of instrumental music. Everyone can interpret it differently and that's what makes it so special. I also love the intimacy of acoustic guitar music.

Born and raised in the vibrant music scene of Wellington, Terry has serenaded local audiences with a unique style of acoustic guitar playing. Having been playing guitar for over 12 years and with a BA in Applied Arts (Music), Terry brings an intimate experience with his acoustic guitar that draws listeners into rethinking the way that a guitar can be heard. UDON & Co. was created in 2019 as a local independent record label and artist management company. Their roster includes Krystal 章小睿 who is a singer/songwriter from mainland China and Uncle Ming who is also a singer/songwriter from Malaysia. Together with their producer Lucha (Richard) they have been releasing songs since 2020 and will continue to develop their careers overseas. They've released songs for encouragement during the pandemic and have been well received overseas especially China. They will be having a concert on the 15 July, details on website. n

Umar Zakaria is a New Zealand bassist and composer filled with hope for the future. In 2018 he was named Best Jazz Artist by Recorded Music New Zealand. Influenced by the musical traditions of his Malay heritage, Umar will be playing a mix of original Malay jazz arrangements and compositions accompanied by local Auckland musicians, guitarist Michael Howell and drummer George Brajkovich. n
